I need some help deciding on insurance.?

I have insurance through work but it is very expensive and has a large deductible. Does anyone know of any good medical and dental insurance companies that I can sign up for on my own?

Through work (via a group plan) you are presented with just one or maybe a few choices of coverage based on decisions made in Human Resources or equivalent. The people who made the decisions work for the company and may have made the decisions based on what was best for the company rather than best for the employees. Just a fact of life. As you know, there are a lot of variables to determine when customizing a plan on an individual basis. You mentioned the premium and the deductible. In addition, one must decide whether to have a PPO, and HMO, or a pay for service style of plan. Then there is the question of the lifetime maximum, the degree of coinsurance (usually something like 80/20 or 75/25) and the copays charged at the hospital or doctors' offices and for prescriptions. When you purchase your own individual plan, you get to select all these variables to fit your personal needs and your budget. Just so you will be able to decide how bad or good your plan at work really is, I'll send you to a couple of web pages so you can do a little investigating. You can read about the plans and get no-obligation quotes. You have two kinds of indvidual insurance (as contrasted to group insurance - it is called that even if there is more than one person on the policy), short-term medical and regular health insurance. The fundamental distinction is that short-term health insurance ends on a specific date. If you want to continue the coverage, you need to "rewrite" it or open a new policy to replace the one that expired. Regular health insurance (also called major medical insurance) is perpetual. That is, it continues in force until you do something specific to stop it - such as notifying the insurer that you want to cancel or discontinuing payment of premiums which causes the insurance to lapse. Short-term insurance is much less expensive than regular. Go here to explore about short term insurance (you can also buy on-line if you wish) from the industry leader http://www.wavehelp.com/short-term-medic… To get a quote on regular health insurance, go here http://www.wavehelp.com/health-insurance… In either case, you can go ahead and apply for insurance and get the policy to examine for ten days before deciding if you want to keep it. If you reject the policy, you'll get your premium back (but not the $10 or $20 application fee). No matter what you decide, do not cancel your group coverage from work before you have another policy you are happy with in force (not just applied for)! Best wishes.
