Ran out of dental insurance... Now what?

Earlier this year I had all 4 of my wisdom teeth pulled. Now I also need to get 2 root canal's (both of them are re-work) but my insurance wont cover it because I've reached my max for the year. The total procedure will cost me at least $3k and I'm in really tough pain. I have two questions... 1.) What options do I have? 2.) What the hell is dental insurance for anyway?

I need dental insurance.?

I am 22 and don't have much money. But I need to find dental insurance without having a wait period. I need to get either one or two implants or bridges on my front teeth (according to one dentist), one of my crowns may fall out before my next 6 month appointment. So any recommendations for dental insurance in Nevada.

It's free and a big time saver, these are all the main American insurers competing to get your business so you are bound to find something that suits you, if it works out remember my points please :)

What's the best dental insurance?

I don't get a dental plan with my current employer so I was wondering what plan would be very cheap on me because I have a lot of cavities [ about 20] and to get them all done would be a fortune. So I was wondering, what's a good provider in IL for dental care.

Individual Dental Insurance?

I'm looking for individual dental insurance. Does anyone have any recomendations...
--------------------
There are basically two kinds of individual plans that are fairly affordable. Dental discount plans (like Ameriplan or Assurant) but they're discounted plans. Usually free cleanings and diagnostics, but you'll be out of pocket about 70% for expensive procedures, because they have limited annual caps on total payouts. Most other plans are cost sharing plans (like Delta, Guardian, and Aflac). They pay some, you pay some. Some have deductibles, some have elimination periods. Do you need a procedure RIGHT NOW, like a root canal? NOTHING out there, no carrier will insure someone who needs it right now (so don't believe it!). Just like trying to buy car insurance after a wreck, or life insurance after a terminal diagnosis. I haven't met a decent dentist yet that wouldn't work out a payment plan when you are forced to "self pay" or "cash pay". Also some credit card companies like CAPITAL ONE actually finance costly dental procedures (if you have good credit).

I am in serious need of major dental work, and I have no insurance. What can I do?

My job offers NO insurance, and I dont make that much money to pay for any dentist visits.

See if there is a dental school in your area. Their fees are greatly reduced from licensed dentists. There are drawbacks however. There is generally a waiting list to be approved; the procedures take longer since you are primarily being worked on by students, but the teachers do work alongside them; if you miss more than one appointment, you are booted out of the system. You could also try the health unit. Some areas are setting up dental clinics as well as medical.
