I was hit recently by a drunk driver in broad daylight and the driver had no insurance and my insurance company only paid for the vehicle. Do anyone know of an additional dental plan that will not conflict with Cigna Dental Plan? Also, one that is affordable too. I reside in Houston, TX now and will also need a dentist unless I travel back home to Chicago. Thanks in advance.

Hepatitis C Transmission through dental tools?
Hi,.sadly the Hep C (the silent killer) could be contracted through dental tools but, after hours and hours of searching the net I couldn't nail a study or statistic about Heptatitis C transmission through dental tools, and I feel like such important aspect is not really covered. I really wish to know how often such scary incident of Hep C transmission happen in America and specially in a place like California. Does anyone know a link or website or share his own knowledge about Heptatis C transmission through dental tools. Also as a person who lives in the united states I know that there is some high level of dental sterilization at least for the majority of dental offices. but what's the safety net for any breach in such standards...I mean how often they are scanned or visited by health officials to check the quality of sterilization in a given dental office. Can anyone explain how the sterilization inspection happens and how often does it happen? Does the insurance companies send inspectors to report any violation? thanks in advance.

the state board of dental examiners do check sterilization, but the thing is, its not a problem for us to sterilize instruments... its just a part of the job, we are trained to do it, its done with every instrument. the dentist is particular about it, we are particular about it. if a patient gets sick from a dental tool in our office, we could all lose our licenses, every dental assistant i know has the mentality of "would i put that in MY mouth, or my child's mouth?" ... so i hope this has put your mind at ease. all instruments are put into a sterilizer or auto clave, there is no chance of hep c.

I know a good medical/dental health benefit plan. It's not insurance though. It's discounted benefits, I don't know If thats something you would be interested in, but it's an option to look into, especially because it is very affordable. AmeriPlan is the name of the company and they offer a medical/dental plan for $39.95 a month. You would be able to put your son on at no extra cost, that monthly fee stays the same and you can add anyone living in your household (up to 20 people). You would receive discounts of up to 80% on dental procedures, and up to 60% on medical. If you are interested in more information here is a website you can look at . www.mybenefitsplus.com/dare2dream You can also enroll right online. Hope this helps!

dental assistance in Texas?
I have a friend in Texas who is in desperate need of dentures and cannot afford them. She does not qualify for Medicaid but her insurance only pays for part of the costs of all of the extractions and dental work. She does not qualify for Care Credit and the dentists that she has tried are not willling to set up payment plans. Does anyone know of any programs that can help pay for the costs? She really needs help before her poor dental health starts affecting her general health. Her teeth are so baad that they are turning black and decaying away. She is also in pain. thanks for your help.

Is it illegal for a dentist to not allow parents into the room where their child is getting dental work?
To make a very very very long story as short as possible..My daughters dad took our daughter to the dentist where they told him she had 2 cavities and needed to get some dental work done. Basically he said the dentist told him he wasn't allowed in the room because he was going to make her nervous. He said he wasn't ok with it but went to the lobby anyways. After being in the lobby for 10 minutes he said he "needed" to use the restroom and instead of going to the restroom went to check up on her. He said the curtains were closed (they don't have doors) and that he slightly opened it and saw my daughter had tears, had her hands & legs restrained and that he heard the dental assistant (a guy) telling her you better stop moving or we're going to give you a bigger injection so you can fall asleep and when you wake up it's going to hurt even more. He said when the dentist saw him peeking that he got up and told him to wait in the lobby that he wasn't allowed and my daughters dad said he said no, I will not wait outside, untie her, finish doing what you're doing and I will never come back here and proceeded to tell the dental assistant who the hell he thought he was to scare her that way. So he said again the dentist insisted in him waiting outside, and my daughters dad told him I'll be damned to leave my daughter in a room with 2 men. Which I know was totally uncalled but then again the world is a crazy place. Anywho, he said there was a back and forth of words and that at the end the dentist said he wasn't going to work on her cativities, to take her somewhere else. Fortunately, he had just numbed her and hadn't drilled yet. I called our insurance but it's already closed. I called the dental office but all the receptionist said was that we would be hearing from the dentists lawyer, that they were going to sue my daughters dad for defamation of character. I completely understand where the dentist is coming from (I know my daughters dad can be pretty nasty) but then again isn't it illegal to keep a parent out of the room where their child is getting any kind of medical procedure done?

I don't think it's illegal. I think it's up to the dentist to say. But, her father had every right to pull her out of there. He doesn't have to force his child to be anywhere. She can get her teeth fixed somewhere else. I doubt they have a case or will even push it. They probably felt threatened thinking he might sue. I would just hope and pray it all blows over. Your daughter on the other hand is going to be terrified to go to the dentist now. How old is she? Can you take her to a pediatric dentist?

Stop payment on check for dental sedation that didnt work?
My 12 year old son has to have sedation when he has dental work done, we have recently switche ddentists because of a change in insurance. Anyways, he went into the dentist yesterday and I had to pay $165 for the sedation becasue it isn't covered by insurance, anyways he was supposedly given versed ($125) and laughing gas ($40), well this did nothing at all and they were not able to do any work on him. I was still charged the $165 because they gave him meds. I do not mind paying something but do not feel i should have to pay the full price, i am sure they mark up what they pay for it. Anyways I am now out almost $200 and have to find a new dentist & pay again. My son has had many surgeried and never had sedation not work for him. I think he was given an incorrect doseage or something. What would happen if i stop payment on the check

What would happen? You'd get sued for the amount of the check. You don't KNOW what happened...everyone reacts to things differently.

Could this be my wisdom teeth coming in?
I have been having pain that is coming and going in the left side of my mouth. It starts at my jaw and then spreads down the lower side of my mouth. It has been going on for a couple of weeks. The pain is relieved by taking Tylenol and the like. I have not noticed any teeth coming in yet. The thing is though that my families health insurance doesn't cover the cost of dental appointments and the like. Does this sound like wisdom teeth? I am 17 years old.
--------------------
That definitely sounds like wisdom teeth coming in. I understand your concern with the cost of dental appointments; in your situation I'd say only go if it gets so unbearable that you can't function properly. Rememer that not everyone has to have their wisdom teeth removed, and you may just be experiencing teething pain.
