I recently got dental x-rays done since my gums bleed every time i brush. Dentist said I need to get deep cleaning done. Since I have no insurance, he said it will cost $500!! which is ridiculous, I am a college student, I cant afford this. My college has no dental hygiene program, however my friend told me I could try to get free cleaning done by dental hygiene students. Can they do it for FREE? do i have to be a student at their college or not? please let me know.

I know that this answer is correct since I teach at a dental hygiene college. Many of the students are so desperate for patients that they will pay the fee for the patient. "Deep cleaning" or periodontal patients are in great demand for these students to meet their requirements. There is one set fee for all cleanings, so it doesn't matter how many appointments you need for cleaning. One word of warning though -- you will need many, many appointments to get this cleaning done. While it would be 4 or 5 appointments at the dentist's office, this can easily be 10 appointments by a student. If you have the time, go for it.

Does BlueCross BlueShield PPO cover any part of an oral surgery?
My dental coverage only covers 80% of an oral surgery, will a bluecross blue shield PPO health insurance plan cover any of the rest? Or do you know if any health insurance plans cover some of a oral surgery? Thanks:)

Sometimes, depending on the plan, if you need IV sedation in a hospital for the surgery, the medical coverage will pick up the coverage for the anesthesiologist.

Cost of Dental Work; Is This a Ripoff?
Today I went to a dentist I found on a list of providers from my insurance carrier because I felt as though I had broken a tooth and I also know that I need work done. The dentist told me that although I have beautiful teeth, I need extensive work and would need to be referred to her associates who are not in my plan (endo and perio doctors) for some perio work and several root canals and crowns I would need. I asked for a ball park figure of what this would cost as I was prepared to pay it. She said with the insurance coverage (which she first said that my insurance company may or may not pay), it would cost close to $4,000.00. After a small gasp, I said "ok". I was then given a dental plan, which looked extremely extensive (19 entries listed) with a total cost of $5,800.00 at the bottom of the list a place and a place for my signature as "Authorizing Services". Then, I found out that this did not even include the perio surgery. Am I being ripped off?

Urgent Dental Care Needed & No Inurance. Please Help!?
My boyfriend has 4 impacted wisdom teeth that have been pushing on the rest of his teeth for about a year now. Last night one of his molars cracked in half to expose the root of the tooth. It is hurting him bad enough that he is getting physically ill from it. We have been using dental creams and the like on his gums to relieve the pain since we do not have insurance at this time or any extra money to be able to afford the surgery. Does anyone know where we can get an inexpensive help?? Ideally all 4 of his wisdom teeth need to be removed and the now broken tooth. All of the insurance providers I have looked at will not cover the surgery if we sign up immediately we have to wait a year. Please Help! We are in Oklahoma.

The services they provide are at a significantly reduced price. Check out the U of O website: http://gradschool.about.com/gi/dynamic/o… In the meantime for pain, give your BF 1000 mg of advil or tylenol every 4 hours. That would be 4 200 mg pills (check the bottle). This will significantly help with the pain.

Lack of Dental Hygienist Benefits?
I am starting to take the steps to educate myself to become a dental hygienist. As I was reading some answers to various DH posts I noticed one that mentioned the lack of benefits dent. hyg. have. For the most part I am so intrigued by the field of dentistry and orthodontics as I have had this feeling for years but it did make me think for a split second. They mentioned not having sick time, insurance, retirement, etc..to have a good support system if kids are sick..I mean right now that doesn't worry me so much as I am in my 20s and don't have kids. I wonder does it just depend on the dentist you find to work for? Seems that was the only post I saw mention it.. On a side note- I love orthodontics! Are dental hygienists trained to be able to work in those specialty offices or is it only dental offices? Do most orthos only hire dental assistants and not hygienists? Thanks :))

How much is corrective jaw surgery cost? (Underbite)?
I don't have severe case but you can definitely notice my jaw is irregular. I'm a chronic mouth breather and that's probably the cause. I have insurance from work(regeance preferred), the work also gives me separate dental which is different insurance company. What's the price range for the surgery if the insurance doesn't cover it.

This is a very major surgery and, thus, quite expensive. I cannot give you a price range for this. There are 2 options that are much easier, with just 5-7 days downtime, and far cheaper. The first is a sliding Genioplasty. This is where the doctor saws off a small part of your lower jaw and moves it forward, securing it with titanium screws. You could also consider a chin implant (which I regret not getting). This will give quite dramatic results, but may not look as natural as the other methods. These 2 options will both total approx. $2500-$4,000, depending on where you live and your doctor. Insurance will probably not pay for any of these procedures b/c they'll consider it elective cosmetic surgery.

help...need pregnancy insurance, college student?
I need some opinions or someone who knos from personal experience! I am a college student, 20 years old, and I am about 7weeks pregnant. My dad has me under his BCBSNC insurance (but it does not cover anything maternity or prenatal visits!!!) My dad wont allow that to his insurance policy. But i am covered in regualr doc checkups er visits, dental and some others because i am listed under his policy (me and my brothers). So the lady that does insurance at OBGYN told me that I would probably be eligiable for medicaid. Like I said, I am 20 years old, in college, live in a dormitory on campus, i have proof of identifcation, residence, I have a part time job and make 7.75/hr, i have bank statements, and can provide proof of employment as well as SS card and BirthCert.as well as proof of pregnancy! I just want the *Pregnancy medicaid*(the medicaid that is just strictly for maternal visits and prenatal care)... Will i still be able to qualify is my question?! i have no idea, I called the social services today and they never answered for 3hrs...so im trying to get an idea of what to expect. im a lil worried. i need this pregnancy medicaid to go to appointments....honestly i can not afford 700 dollars everytime i go.
