Routine dentist check up?
Sorry to say I haven't been to the dentist in a couple years. My teeth are really healthy and white but I still need to go soon. Does anyone know approximately how much a routine cleaning and check up is without dental insurance? Thanks

2 wisdom teeth growing, weird taste?
i don't have dental insurance so i can't go see a dentist AT ALL.... ...but i have a wisdom teeth growing on each side. it doesnt hurt, but around that area, it has a weird taste/foul smell. i know it's not gingivitus cause i brush my teeth usually twice a day and floss. it that normal to have that smell? what can i do to get rid of the smell?

Your gums may be bleeding somewhat as the teeth are coming through, and as the blood decays, it can smell bad. The other possibility is that the teeth themselves are decaying, and smell bad. If you are near a dental school, consider contacting them for help to get treatment; they often treat members of the local community in their practical studies.

My boyfriends teeth are horrible!?
I love my boyfriend very much but his teeth are horrid. About 8 are missing, he has only 1 front tooth, some are cracked, some are blackened, some are twisted, one of his wisdom teeth has a crown missing. He has had several abcesses around different spots of his gums. He gums are black and very weak. He doesnt know where to start to get his teeth fixed. When he last went to the dentist the dentist told him he needed at least $15,000 to fix his whole mouth and my boyfriend doesn't have that kind of money. He asked could i possibly add him on to my dental insurance which i am unsure of and i cant do that till the next benefits enrollment date which is in january. Other than that he has no other alternatives. Any suggestions?

Root canal and a crown?
Hi everyone! Just recently my father got his dental insurance through his employer and he wanted to fix his teeth. However, he got back with a huge estimate. For one tooth - Root Canal (D3330) which is 950 bucks, and a crown (D2750) which is 1100 bucks. So, i wonder whether the prices are reasonable or that dentist is just trying to get his money (there is a relatively small limit on his benefits and high coinsurance). We live in Seattle. If somebody had something like this before, I would be happy to see the amount you paid to the dentist. Thanks everyone!

I live in Seattle and have had several root canals & crowns and this is a average and customary fee for the service. Don't expect the insurance to pay much (if anything) dental Insurance companies a the biggest bunch of weasels when it comes to expensive procedures like root canals and crowns. My only recommendation is for your dad to go to a Endodontist - someone who specializes in root canals. I have had root canals done by "regular" dentists before & they have failed (& then I had to pay Again for the Endodontist to do it right) I had mine re-done (correctly) at: Freeman & Short - in the dental building downtown. see the link below. They don't charge any more - they just do a better job.

smile makeovers?
I need the front four teeth completely made over. I have had an evaluation and the cost would be about 4100. I need to find a dentist who will finance this for me over about 18-24 months. Does anyone know of a dentist in the columbus ohio area willing to do this? I am on disability and have no dental insurance. I am also missing a tooth right in front, and feel to embarresed to even smile.

Unfortunately, Care Credit (and Dental Fee Plan) are credit finance companies and will look at credit ratings and ability to repay the loan. A person on disability may not qualify. For the exact same reasons, dentists are unlikely to extend credit to a poor risk. You would be asking a small business to loan you $4100 for 2 years with no collateral. How would you service the debt? Would you pay interest? Perhaps a dental college or some other teaching avenue would be helpful. Some dentists look for cases to work on for study groups. You might call your local dental society and ask for leads.

Dentist Quality Cleaning?
Is it possible to clean your own teeth nearly as well as you could get it done at a Dentist's office? If so, explain the process please. I have never worked at a place that offered dental insurance, which is frustrating, but would still like to have teeth which appears to be taken care of professionally. Thank you. ~jaz~

Anti-tartar toothpastes only work for the calculus above your gum line. If you don't get the calculus removed after a while, it will cause damage to your teeth and gums.
